Safety tips
Most people on zlister are your neighbors. A few are scammers. These habits keep you safe:
- Deal locally, in person. Meet in a busy public place — many police stations offer a "safe exchange zone." Bring a friend for larger deals.
- Inspect before you pay. Test electronics, check vehicles with a mechanic, and see a rental in person before sending any money.
- Pay safely. Cash in person is simplest. Never wire money, buy gift cards, send crypto or use money-transfer apps with strangers.
- Refuse overpayment and checks. "I'll send a cashier's check for more than the price — refund the difference" is always a scam.
- Never share verification codes. Anyone who asks you to read back a code texted to your phone is trying to take over your accounts.
- Beware of shipping, escrow and "agents". Real local buyers don't need shipping, and zlister never holds payments or "guarantees" a deal.
- Rentals: never pay a deposit for a place you have not seen, or to a "landlord" who is out of the country.
- Jobs: legitimate employers don't charge you to apply, ask for your bank login, or send you checks to deposit.
